Theatre: 'Frankenstein' by Nick dear
Thursday, 30 May 2013
8:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Ensemble Theatre present Nick Dear's astonishing adaptation of Frankenstein, which was a huge hit for the National Theatre, London in 2011.
Forced to survive in the real world, a man-mad creature soon loses his child-like innocence and transforms into an adult being... an adult with bitterness, lust, vengeance - and deadly reasoning.
The Creature is cast out by his creator, the young Dr Frankenstein, and unleashed upon the world. He is shunned for his grotesque appearance and spurned by society whereever he goes. When a blind man takes Frankenstein's monstrous creation under his wing and educates him, the Creature begins to question his existence and to yearn for a future without loneliness. His search for a lifelong partner brings him back to his maker, with vengance foremost in his mind...

EXHIBITION: Vicki Couzens
Sunday, 7 July 2013
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Vicki Couzens is a member of the Kirrae Wurrong and Gunditjmara clans of western Victoria. Couzens’ work encompasses a range of media, including painting, installation, mixed media, sculpture, printmaking, public art and possum skin cloak making. All of her art practice is a means to connect with aspects of her Indigenous heritage and to explore her sense of belonging to family, ancestors and country.
Materials are selected for their potential to be interpreted as repositories of Indigenous experience so as to honour aspects of Indigenous history that have been suppressed by colonial paradigms, and affirm the continuity of Indigenous identity.
The exhibition will be officially opened from 2-4pm, Sunday 7 July, (all welcome)with a traditional Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country.
For the last two years, Kingston Arts have lit up the night-time skyline with projections onto the Kingston City Hall clocktower during NAIDOC Week.
We have seen works projected by renowned Indigenous artists Ben McKeown and Maree Clarke, as well artwork from Kingston’s Koorie Kids Network. This year will be of particular significance with the restoration of the iconic clocktower recently completed in time for the 50th anniversary of the Kingston City Hall (formerly Moorabbin Town Hall).
The traditional design has been upheld in line with Heritage, but with a contemporary twist, as the original 1960s style clock face is now backlit at night with many different light colour changes and sequences.
