News>Mentone and Aspendale beaches to be renourished
Kingston Council and the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) are pleased to announce that sand renourishment works will be undertaken at two of Kingston’s beaches.

| Mentone and Aspendale beaches will receive additional sand as part of the Protection of the Port Phillip Beaches and Foreshore Program, in partnership with Council and DSE.
Council is very pleased to receive funding and support from the DSE for these works.
In Kingston there is an overall loss of sand to the south, primarily as a result of wave direction. The sand is transported southwards until it hits a barrier. Sand from Mentone travels south until it is held at Mordialloc by the mouth of the creek.
Mentone beach will receive sand relocated from Mordialloc beach to Mentone, through works similar to those done in 2006.
Aspendale beach will receive additional sand from a source yet to be confirmed. The new renourishment works will take place south of the renourishment works undertaken in 2009.
Community information meetings will be held in the coming months and regular updates will be posted on Council’s website.
It is anticipated that works will commence in May, 2012.
