News>Free ranger talks and activities in the park
Kingston dog owners and their four-legged friends are invited to a free session of exciting and informative activities at Bicentennial Park next month.

| The Ranger Talks, Walk and Fun Activities in the Park is on from 11am – 2pm on Wednesday 15 February 2012 at Bicentennial Park in Chelsea.
Council will be conducting a series of ranger talks throughout 2012, starting with the session for dog owners in February.
Council’s free ranger talks will provide information for dog owners on all manner of topics and offer a chance for people to ask any questions they may have. We look forward to seeing dog owners who are keen to socialise their pets with all sorts of different dogs.
A ranger will be at the event to provide information handouts, answer questions and host a series of fun activities for dogs. There will also be giveaways on offer.
There are 19,185 registered dogs in the municipality. Council recognises the importance of exercise, play and socialisation for the health and happiness of dogs. In Kingston, there are 28 designated off-leash areas, including four sites with dog exercise equipment located in Chelsea, Mordialloc, Cheltenham and Clayton South.
Kingston pet owners are encouraged to ensure they have renewed their 2012 pet registrations before the 10 April annual deadline. All dogs over the age of three months must be registered with Council.
Council offers a range of services funded in part by the annual dog and cat registration fees, in addition to Council identification tags and a pound service. These include:
-
services to remove wandering and aggressive dogs from the streets, so residents and their pets can walk in safety;
-
services to deal with nuisance problems like barking dogs, cats trespassing and disowned animals;
-
control of dangerous, menacing and restricted breed dogs so they do not pose a threat to the community;
-
Council monitoring of animal welfare standards in pet shops, kennels, catteries, breeding and training businesses;
-
education programs for the general community, for children 0-4 years old and primary schools;
-
research into dog and cat welfare and control issues, including dog attack prevention.
