Two Major Chelsea Sports Projects underway  Printer Friendly

Chelsea sports clubs can look forward to some fantastic improvements to two major facilities, Tom Johnston Pavilion and the Chelsea Sportswomen’s Centre, with almost $3 million of works to commence this month.

Kingston Mayor, Cr Ron Brownlees said that the two projects involved extending and refurbishing these facilities to meet the needs of the community and encourage greater participation in sport.

The Mayor said that the works to Tom Johnston Pavilion were identified as part of the 2008 Masterplan for the Chelsea Recreation Reserve and were fully funded by Council.

The Chelsea Sportswomen's Centre was also identified as in need of an upgrade, and Council successfully obtained a $118,000 grant towards the project from the Sport and Recreation Victoria Community Facility Funding Program 2010-11, combined with a $50,000 grant from Chelsea Community Renewal.
