Green Wedge Plan

Kingston Green Wedge Map
The Kingston Green Wedge includes all land outside the Urban Growth Boundary in the City of Kingston. It extends roughly from Karkarook Park in the north to Braeside Park in the south, and also includes two small areas of land in Aspendale Gardens and Patterson Lakes.

The Kingston Green Wedge (which is shown on the map) is part of the South East Green Wedge that extends through the Cities of Kingston, Greater Dandenong, Frankston and Casey.

The Green Wedge Plan was prepared by independent consultants on behalf of the Kingston City Council. The plan identifies the values and features of the Green Wedge, the preferred land uses and the environmental and natural resources contained within it..

The plan is designed to provide Council, landowners, business operators and residents with certainty about the Green Wedge and all the land within it. Most of the land within the Green Wedge is privately owned.

The preparation of the plan follows detailed background review of previous studies, on-site analysis and extensive input from the Kingston

The Council and the community have identified the following key issues with which the Green Wedge Plan needs to deal:
Managing existing landfills and heavy industry to minimise impacts and transitioning uses that cause off-site impacts out of the Green Wedge
Protecting and improving the environmental qualities of the Green Wedge
Achieving the ‘Chain of Parks’ concept of open spaces linked by walking and cycling trails
Identifying appropriate areas of passive and active recreation
Retaining a predominantly open and semi-rural feel
Declining market garden viability, and identifying and encouraging new agriculture and other ‘green’ uses
Improving the appearance of the area generally
Implementing the Plan and providing certainty to land owners and the broader community about the future of the Green Wedge land.
