Celebrate International Women’s Day at Kingston
17 February 2017
Local women will gather together to celebrate International Women’s Day with the City of Kingston on Wednesday 8 March.
Council is hosting a morning tea event to honour the significant contribution of women in our local community.
The event, to be held at the Southern Golf Club, will feature a range of guest speakers including a human rights activist, local young female student leaders and Deputy Mayor Rosemary West.
“International Women’s Day is a chance for our community to acknowledge the remarkable contribution of women across business, social, education and political spheres of our society,” Kingston Mayor David Eden said.
Keynote speaker Mariam Issa will share her story of fleeing from Somalia to Kenya in 1991, escaping civil war and eventually finding refuge in Australia in 1998.
Mariam is a passionate human rights activist focused on supporting the rights of refugees and developing the strengths and confidence of women in Australia and Africa.
The event will conclude with a performance from ‘The Stiletto Sisters’ followed by morning tea and refreshments.
Kingston’s International Women’s Day celebration will be held 9:30am – 12pm on Wednesday 8 March at Southern Golf Club, Lower Dandenong Rd, Keysborough.
